My first day in Paris covered a few favourite destinations. Firstly a visit to one of my favourite fragrance boutiques Frederic Malle on rue du Mont Thabor. Then for a spot of lunch at l'Imperial. After recharging the batteries we headed to Chanel on rue Cambon and then to Goyard where I purchased a 'shopper' and matching scarf - truly gorgeous. Always good to be swinging down rue Saint Honore with a few shopping bags in tow!!

Chanel was busy as every store in Paris is currently on Sale. As much as I love a bargain nothing inspired me at Chanel. I prefer to shop when the stores are not on Sale.

These images are of Frederic Malle's store - I bought the newly released book on Perfume Making, one of the new room sprays and of course some perfume - En Passant.

Last but not least the wonderful view from our apartment - you could sit and look out the windows all day.

In 1760, in London, James Henry Creed founded the House of Creed. It rapidly became a favourite with the Court of England and Queen Victoria appointed Creed as an official supplier.

Shortly after the House of Creed was chosen by all the Royal courts of Europe; from Napoleon III, to Empress Eugenia, Francois-Joseph and Elizabeth of Austria-Hungary, and Queen Christina of Spain, Creed's creations were recognised for their quality, refinement and originality.

In 1854, under the direction of Empress Eugenia, the House of Creed moved to Paris and soon acquired notoriety. With a very selective clientele, Creed went on creating unique perfumes, masterpieces of creativity. More than two hundred exclusive perfumes, all original and hand-made, were created by the Creed family over the years.

Today the house of Creed is headed by Olivier Creed and his son Erwin.

Aesop Petitgrain Hydrating Gel

The eagerly anticipated 'Petitgrain Hydrating body gel' has finally arrived. This easily absorbed gel cools as well as softens the skin. It's fragranced with my favourite citrus's grapefruit and lemon peel oils.

Aesop's first moisturising gel is enhanced with panthenol to soften, Aloe Vera juice to hydrate and Witch Hazel with its anti-oxidant properties.

The body gel comes in a 120ml tube and 500ml pump pack which are priced at $35 and $100 respectively.

I love getting deliveries from France - it makes you feel like a child at Christmas. Astier de Villatte have sent me all these goodies to look at including incense, notebooks, hand washes and lotions and some amazing dish washing liquid.

We have added to our candle range and now stock 15 fragrances. We have added rue Saint Victor, Rocquebrune, Algier, Saint Cirq Lapopie and Dehli. Definitely worth a 'sniff' when you next visit.

Acqua di Parma do a wonderful shaving range and we have some of their shaving sets which come in a wonderful monogrammed wet pack - perfect!

Toothpaste fit for a King!

I had to have this for the store. I love the image above, now I have to find an original toothpaste container in my never ending search for all things vintage.

This toothpaste and mouthwash was amazingly invented in 1755 by Dr. Julien Botot for King Louis XV of France. The natural formula works to draw extra blood to the gum line. Botot toothpaste is recognised by the Royal Society of Medicine as a superior natural product! True to its original formulation, Botot remains a best seller the world over.

The mouthwash contains a natural gillyflower (clove family) base. The mouthwash warms the gum line and as it is an exilir you only need a few drops in a glass of warm water and gargle to do the trick. There are no artificial flavours or colours and follows the original formula.

The toothpaste is $20 for a 75ml tube and the mouthwash is $35 for 150ml.

We are increasing our range of male grooming products in time for Father's Day so I will be introducing you to all our new lines over the next few weeks.

Jardin sur le Toit

Hermes have launched a fourth fragrance in their Jardin range - 'Jardin sur le Toit', the translation being Garden on the roof. If you manage to get hold of the BBC series 'Perfume' there is a segment where Jean Claude Ellena (the perfumeur) is going through the creative process and it is facinating to go behind the scenes. There actually is a garden on the roof of the Hermes boutique in Paris - see picture below.

The fragrance is a perfectly balanced Crisp Floral with Rose at its heart. The structure of the fragrance opens with apple and pear notes with middle notes of magnolia and rose. The dry down of green herbs gives this fragrance that wonderful transparency.

This beautiful composition comes in a 50ml and 100ml eau de toilette and is priced at $115 and $160 respectively.

These wonderful Travalo atomisers are perfect for travel and make your favourite perfume totally transportable. All you do is remove the top of the atomiser of your perfume and insert the base of the Travalo and depress. The atomiser can hold 4mls of perfume and can be reused.

One of my favourite perfume houses has released 3 new fragrances which we will be launching at the 'Red Hot Lips' appeal on Thursday 4th August - or you can have a sneak preview - just ask!!

Camellia is a delicate and feminine white floral. This lovely scent evokes the exquisite Japanese camellia, with it's enchanting arrangement of pink petals and glossy green leaves. Camellia opens with a blend of white tea and Ume plum. Then it blooms into a heady profusion of petals - camellia and honeyed magnolia. Soft hints of wood and amber round out the scent. A graceful rendition of a magical flower.

Paradise Lost was inspired by the dreamy beaches of Goa in India filled with the gloriously free spirited perpetual travellers who follow the sun. It is a beautifully crafted rich Citrus fragrance which opens with lime and bergamot, musk and the intoxicating blend of jasmine, tuberose and vanilla. The result is a tropical twist on eau de cologne - bright, transparent and joyful. I am wearing this fragrance today, it is delicious and makes me long for summer.

The Essence of Frapin

1697 has just arrived in store - very exciting.

In the year 1697 the Frapin family were granted nobility by Louis XIV. The monarch was passionate about beauty, women, love.... rapturous festivities, enchanting balls, voluptuous colours and scents marked his reign. P Frapin and Cie called on celebrated perfumeur Bertrand Duchaufour to create a fragrance that reflects this enchanting period in history.

The fragrance is made up of the most precious ingredients. Absolutes of rum, cassie flower, cistus, tonka bean and rose. The first wafts of rum are heightened by davana oil and become more pronounced as the leather and notes of cognac come in to play. Spiced floral heart notes of hawthorn and jasmine merge with cinnamon, dried fruits and rose. The base notes linger, combining an amber based theme with musk and wood essences softened by vanilla. A smooth and bewitching scent.

1697 is a Limited Edition numbered from 1 to 1697. The absolu de parfum is a 50ml flacon and priced at $337. We have been lucky to secure just a few bottles.

Miller Harris London New Products

I just love Miller Harris. I love their packaging and their new products are just delicious.

We have introduced the hand wash and hand lotion in Citron Citron and Terre de Bois. No harsh chemicals here, a gentle coconut derived cleansing agent and calendula soften the skin and the hand lotion is specifically formulated with sweet almond, jojoba oils and aloe leaf juice to nourish those dry hands. They are priced at $45 each.

The MH Classic collection is now available in an Eau de Parfum. So your Coeur de Fleur, Terre de Bois, Citron Citron and my favourite Fleur Oriental will last a lot longer on your skin. The 100ml EDP is priced at $190. MH will be discontinuing the Eau de Toilette so if you prefer your MH fragrance as an EDT then be quick as we don't have many available.

These petite soaps are perfect for those who like their soaps compact as they are easy to handle - so no more dropping the soap in the shower. Priced at $20 each they make wonderful gifts.

A little bit of Paris in Melbourne

I had a little pilgrimage into the CBD today as I hadn't been there for quite some time. I went to visit a few stores I had unearthed on my internet travels. I started at the Little Cupcake store in Degraves Street, cute yummy cupcakes - a must try for all of you who love cupcakes. But the highlight of my trip was discovering La Belle Miette at 30 Hardware Lane, Melbourne. The macarons looked fabulous, the store reminiscent of Laduree in Paris. I walked in and said could I have one of everything!! Packed in the most divine box by very friendly staff they managed to stay uneaten all the way home.

I am happy to say they taste divine!! and I don't have to wait until my next visit to Paris to buy macarons.

I just wish they would open a store next to me in Auburn Village!!

Our next Perfume Workshop

Our next Perfume Workshop will be held at the store on Sunday 31st July, between 2pm and 5pm. Places are limited as we had such an overwhelming response to our last workshop we have only a few spots left.

We will discuss the history of perfume, fragrance families, how to create the perfect perfume wardrobe, natural's Vs synthetics, methods of extraction and much more.

We have a short break to enjoy a delicious lunch box prepared by the very talented team at 'Egg Unlimited', champagne and mineral water.

The cost of the workshop is $195 per person, with $50 being redeemable towards a fragrance choice on the day of the workshop. A luxury sample bag and comprehensive notes on request are yours to take home.

Red Hot Lips Charity Event

'Wear a red smile for one night and put a smile on a child for a lifetime'.

Peony is proud to be a sponsor of such a worthy cause and I hope you are able to support such a wonderful event. Operation Smile Australia is a not-for-profit charity, funding reconstructive surgery for children suffering cleft palate and severe facial deformity.

The event will be held on Thursday 4th August from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. There will be a team of make-up artists to create 'Red Hot Lips' makeovers, surprise entertainment, glamour raffles with the opportunity to win prizes worth thousands of dollars and my little 'Parisian Parfumerie'.

Well I can finally announce that my colognes from Astier de Villatte have finally arrived and I can heart-fully say that they were worth the wait.

Firstly their newest invocation is Cologne 1871 - in conjunction with French fashion label 'Commune de Paris'. Cologne 1871 opens with Sicilian lemon, rosemary and bergamote - alive and sparkling. Then beneath its temptingly bitter and slightly tarnished surface, Cologne 1871 hides a decisive powdery charm, suave labdanum and stryax resin infuse the woody notes of luxurious patchouli essence, cedar and vetiver. The base of coumarin, with notes of feshly cut grass, along with Benzaldehyde and its scent of powdery almonds, become mouthwateringly lovely upon ones skin.

The 3 original colognes are:

The beautiful candles from Astier de Villatte Paris have arrived!!!

Primarily known for their tableware in white ceramic, Astier de Villatte was launched in 1996 and their famous store on rue Saint-Honoré opened in 2000. The shop is a must see when you visit Paris.

Astier de Villatte offer a line of high-end perfumed vegetable wax candles. They contain no paraffin or other petrochemical by-products. The unprecedented softness of their candle base is due to a mix of soy, vegetable and a tiny bit of beeswax. They burn flawlessly for about 45 hours.

We have launched 10 candles with new releases Commune de Paris & Opéra. Opéra contains beeswax absolute from the hives atop the 'Opéra' in Paris - it is a must have for the colder months.

Our selection of fragrances include: Delphes, Cambridge, Rue Saint-Honoré, Mantes-la-Jolie, Honolulu, Monte Carlo, Naples, Anchorage, Commune de Paris & Opéra. Their perfumes are created by French parfumeur Françoise Caron from the prestigious Takasago perfume house in Japan.

Cire Trudon introduces 'Les Parfums d'Intérieur' - a collection of beautifully hand-crafted interior perfume atomisers.

I must say I have been waiting in avid anticipation of this products arrival. These luxurious room sprays have been created in the style of antique atomisers with bottles in moulded green glass, which carry the Cire Trudon emblem, topped with an elegant golden 'poire' atomiser. Each glass is shaped by artisans from Vinci, in Italy.

We launch with Mademoiselle de la Vallière - the seductive fragrance of tuberose. Ernesto, Abd el Kader, Spriritus Sancti will follow later.

The boxed atomiser is 375ml and priced at $199.

High Tea and Perfume

We will be holding one of our wonderful Perfume Workshops at the store on Sunday 29th May from 2pm to 5pm. It is for all of you who would like to learn more about fragrance, perfumers, the history of fragrance, fragrance families, natural V's synthetic materials, classic fragrances, methods of extraction and much more.

I have a wonderful collection of vintage and antique perfume bottles, so you get to see some of the most beautiful bottles from the past. There will also be a 'perfume organ' of raw materials for you to see and experience.

The afternoon would not be complete without the wonderful High Tea we provide for you from the very talented Julie Parks from Egg Unlimited. Champagne and soft drinks will be served.

This event is limited to 10 attendees. The cost is $195 per person, with $50 of your fee to be redeemed towards your fragrance of choice. A luxury sample bag and extensive notes are yours to take home with you.

The luxury fragrance house of Bella Bellissima from the UK will make it's debut at Peony when we re open on Monday 31st January.

Bella Bellissima was created by Bella Crane, who handpicked a leading team of Swiss and British cosmetic scientists and the prestigious French aromatic products company of Robertet, to help create perfume perfection. The aim was to combine the finest, most exquisite ingredients in an innovative range delivering both real results and ultimate luxury. The range is presented in beautifully handblown glass decorated with pure platinum.

The range consists of 4 fragrances - 2 for women and 2 for men. I love this concept of having a day time fragrance and then layering with the night time fragrance over the top of your day perfume. The same principal applies to the mens fragrances.

The home fragrance collection is divine. There are 4 candles with matching room sprays, fragrances include: Sweet Fig and crushed Raspberry leaf; Red Roses and precious Guaiac Wood; Pure Gardenia, Jasmine and Peony and Black Cardamon, Cinnamon and Cedarwood. The presentation includes a little box of matches.

The fragrances are priced at $140 for the women's fragrance and $130 for the men's. The candles are $85 and the matching home and linen sprays are $60.

Renovating

Remind me never to decide to tart up my shop all at once again!!! - I am exhausted......

I have finally finished packing everything into boxes and cleaned out the storage area - anyone who has seen 'my back room' will know what a monumental effort that took. So after 7 days of hard slog the removalists will arrive tomorrow to take away all the furniture. The shop looks very sad and empty. 'Peter the Painter' arrives for 2 days - I think he is being very ambitious as he has to paint the inside and outside of the store. The fabulous staff at Victorian Shutters and Shades are revamping my awning which I have designed so I am hoping it turns out well.

Then all going to plan the new carpet arrives next week - a very stylish black with a white pin stripe to match my black and white theme. I will have a few new pieces of furniture to play with and the shop counter is getting a makeover. Then the fun part starts again - unpacking!! and re-merchandising.

I know it will be worth it in the end!! - very exciting.

This amazing perfume range has just arrived in time for Christmas. One of my personal favourites, the Heeley range of perfumes are simply divine. I met with James Heeley at the Pitti Imagine fragrance fair in Florence and was immediately impressed with his passion for perfume.

Heeley Eau de Parfum, is characteristically elegant and natural. Made in France from a selection of rare ingredients of the finest quality, it is a contemporary version of the traditional Eau de Parfum.

The unique and distinctive scents within the collection are characterised by fresh, green, woody or light floral tones. Suitable for both men and women, the choice of scent is best left to the individual.

Amouage Memoir

We received the latest instalment from Amouage today - the most delicious Chypre (Mossy Wood) fragrance for men and women - Memoir. It is described as a shadowy, mystical Chypre that takes the Absinth top notes of Memoir Man and infuses them with the spices of Pink Pepper and Cardamon. The heart notes artfully clash Dark Wood and Frankincense with White Blossoms, Jasmine and Rose. Whilst Labdanum, Leather, Musk and Oakmoss in the base provide a smoky, uncompromising conclusion to the fragrance.

I truly love this fragrance range - they understand luxury and the beautiful black bottle is stunning.

Mizensir Candles

So exciting! my new candles and room sprays arrived today from the bespoke company Mizensir in Geneva, Switzerland. Created by Alberto Morillas, 'Master Perfumeur' and winner of the Francois Coty award for the best perfume artist in 2003, Mizensir is still a family run business and one of the very few 'Ateliers' to still make all it's products by hand. A rarity in these times of mass produced products.

Everything about this company is a symbol of craftsmanship and a homage to luxury.

We have 14 beautifully perfumed candles to choose from and six room sprays. Candles are priced at $85 and $65 for the room sprays.

I would have to say that Christmas is my favourite time of year in the store. We are all things French this year with our Red, White and Blue theme. I found these cute little Eiffel tower ornaments and the vintage French flag works in the background.

This image is of the smaller window with the crystal Eiffel tower, vintage French Flag and my huge vintage Louvre sign - which I was very happy to have found at a recent Antique Fair.

We are full to the brim with all our festive decorations which include beautiful mercury glass decorations of nutcrackers, acorns and owls. We have some hand blown jolly Santa's and the most divine glass eggs that open which you can put a special surprise in. Today we received a delivery of metal bell wreaths, so every time you open the door they jingle.

We are incredibly excited to be able to showcase a very beautiful perfume by Puredistance - Master Perfumes.

A meeting between perfumeur Annie Buzantian and the founder of Puredistance Jan Ewoud Vos, realised a perfume Ms Buzantian had created for herself perfectly fit with the brief for Puredistance One. The fragrance is chic, beautiful and understated in it's elegance.

Puredistance One is a Floral with Crisp Green notes. The perfume opens with notes of bitter orange, tangerine blossom and blackcurrent buds. Heart notes are Jasmine, Magnolia, Mimosa and Rose. The base notes of vetiver, amber and white musk make this a truly memorable fragrance.

Peony's current window display showcases the beautiful paper flowers from the divine Noel Soloman of Fanciful Designs, the stunning jewels by Rodrigo Otazu and Puredistance One.

Lawrence Mynott Prints

Peony Melbourne introduces limited edition prints by the illustrator Lawrence Mynott. Mr Mynott was invited by Ramdane Touhami of Cire Trudon to illustrate it's latest catalogue. Lawrence Mynott is an English painter and has received both Gold and Silver awards from D&AD. His work has been exhibited at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the National Portrait Gallery in London.

The world of blogging is amazing - just look at these delicious French paper flowers supplied to Peony by Fanciful Designs who I met through clicking away to find her beautiful site.

These gorgeous flowers are totally handmade by Noel and to me they represent my most favourite flowers - the Peony, the Rose and the Gardenia. They come in 4 sizes from Petite to Le Grande!!!

These little shoes are also made by Noel - aren't they divine - they would make the most gorgeous wedding favour/memento.

Cire Trudon Display

I love Cire Trudon candles. I purchased a number of antique apothecary jars and together with some beautiful Singapore orchids the window came together.

The beautiful curtains of the 'Paris' streetscape I found in a delicious store in Hawksburn. They are screen printed by hand.

The old leather books were a bit of a find in a gorgeous store called 'Cote Provence' in Carlton. It's one of my favourite places to find items for my window displays.

Last but not least this stunning antique zinc tub was the perfect container for my new orchid. I thought my box hedge wreath was an inspired addition.

Sex in the City 2

We have just launched the stunning pieces of Rodgrio Otazu jewellery that featured in the latest instalment of Sex and the City. Rodrigo is Argentinian by birth and now resides in Amsterdam where the jewels are made. What I love about the jewellery is the attention to detail and the drama, they are just so beautifully made.

This beautiful 'Carrie' necklace (pictured) is available in very limited quantities and priced at $465, which given the detail and workmanship is very well priced. The other pieces include 2 of the pearl and crystal cuffs - just have to try these on!! and the divine earings worn by 'Samantha'.

I have just returned from Brisbane where I met with Christian David from Honore des Pres, Paris. He made the trip from Paris for the huge media launch in Sydney and then he travelled up to Brisbane. We were both staying at the Emporium Hotel which was lovely. On Friday we met with Nick Smart from Agence de Parfum (who are the importers/distributors) at his retail store in West End. The store looked amazing, this is a picture of the window display above.

Christian gave the most interesting talk on his collaboration with one of the most famous noses 'Olivia Giacobetti'. He spoke of his passion for creating an organic fragrance range and what a journey it has been to be presenting these beautiful fragrances as it can take over 12 months just to produce the perfume.

An interesting snippet from Paris - as they were launching Honore des Pres in Collette the wonderful Karl Lagerfeld just happened to pop in - Christian is so humble - he said his heart was racing as KL is one of his idols. The new collection 'We love NY' - Vamp in NY has outsold Chanel 5 for the month of May in the fabulous department store 'La Bon Marche' - a staggering achievement!!!

After our little presentation we stroled down the road to a wonderful organic restaurant called Mondo Organics where we had the most delicious of lunches:

Starter: Tin Can Bay Prawn with prawn bisque
Main: Pan fried John Dory with saffron potato, braised fennel, peas, bacon baby clams and saffron veloute
Dessert: Amaretto creme brulee with hazelnut crumble, burnt caramel ice cream and rose water coulis

All in all it was a wonderful few days which I thoroughly enjoyed!!

Ladurée Candles

A Little taste of Paris comes to Peony. We have launched 8 candles from Ladurée Paris - Brioche, Cafe Creme, Rose Water, Caramel Butter, Roasted Chestnuts, Orange Blossom, Black Tea and Wild Strawberry. They are good enough to eat. Priced at $99 each.

Founded in 1862 in the rue Royale by Louis Ernest Ladurée, the company quickly became famous especially for its macaroons. Its tearoom was at the time one of the first meeting places for "Ladies". Ladurée had invented the Parisian "Salon de thé".

At Ladurée, decor is king and its royal stamp is everywhere. The salons have a sumptuous style of the Second Empire with its taffeta curtains, crystal chandeliers, gilded caryatids, and velvet armchairs.

Carrying the Ecocert Organic Label, these exceptional and rare essences are 100% natural in origin, use 100% botanical ingredients produced using organic farming methods, contain no petrochemical products or synthetic perfumes, are free of colouring agents and phtalates, are produced without animal testing or ingredients of animal origin, and contain no elements which aggress the skin.

Parfums Honoré des Prés were created by one of the world's most celebrated perfumers of modern times, Olivia Giacobetti. She was the first to accept the challenge of creating unique and perfectly organic perfumes which do not compromise beauty or style.
